shallow.. oh so shallow me...

well, folks, i've just walked a full day on the streets of downtown toronto... *in my defense, i did go to the art gallery, and tomorrow i plan on hitting up the ROM during supper or something*
so in the midst of overpriced "stuff"... i've come to the conclusion that the best way of dealing with the draw of consumerism is to not buy anything at all. however, i realize that while that's a good method of treating "shopper's syndrome" while travelling... it's not practical for life.
yes, salty hank, this means that everyone needs to shop at some point.
so my question for the day is this: how do you judge what price is justified for an item?
ex: value village vs. holt renfrew?

anyway, i await your comments.... let me say.. i like travelling alone much better than my current predicament.

To my understanding, if we roughly consider Marxist theory, price may be based on the amount of labour that went into making the product.

Helpful comment? Not likely. Just an aspect to consider.

o my god... meghan and henry those are wayyy to complicated awnsers!! So here ya go haj... this will save your life on this trip:

BUY WHAT YOU LIKE. Quite a novel idea isn't it? I mean how often do you really get to go to TO and shop it up? Obviously it would be crazy to spend 300 bucks on a shirt or something, but if you find something you like, just get it. Just use your common sense... I know you got lots of it... most of the time! :)

i hope you are having a great time

A famous economist once said: "everything is worth whatever someone will pay for it."

I agree with Teegan, however. Many times in my life, I have had the decision between several objects. Naturally, as I like being frugal in the most irrational and random of ways, I go for the cheapest one. Later I find that I, in fact, actually hate it and will never use it except in the most dire of circumstances. Yet when I buy the more expensive item, maybe not the most expensive, but still one of good quality and value, I use it consistently and to its full value. Therefore, I could try to save money by buying cheaper, and end up with many things i don't want and nothing I do, or stop denying my capitalist wants and buy less, but of what I want and will use. Yep.

So go ahead, you don't need that education, go buy a shirt. Exnay on the last-ay part-ay.

I think you got mixed up. Was that a one cent pair of shoes or a beautiful-over-a-hundred-dollar-cow-killing-leather-in -all-its-glory-and-fashionable-brilliance jacket?
