well, i must apologize for not posting in ages.. but i've been thinking a lot, and have become a bit of a recluse!
in any case, now that i've lost my ST to the ravages that are persian parenting (how's that for alliteration! eheh), i will have plenty of time to write - and no big thoughts, so really, this will be just fine... i think!
my question for today is: what makes music spiritual and uplifting or not?
i have media player on right now, and i've set it on a playlist that has a bunch of music that i've collected over the past year - mostly from what people have sent me, and some from stuff that i've ripped, etc. but nothing on this playlist is "religious" music. but i like the songs, and they do affect my mood or whatever... so what does it take to be considered "religious" music - or just normal everyday music?
i guess, yes, i can understand how some of the more... shall we say graphic pieces that pop music has come out with is totally NOT spiritual, but i mean, the line gets slightly grey when it comes to "butterflies and hurricanes" by muse - a song which is all about changing your life.
anyway, i won't belabor this point any longer! i'd like to hear your thoughts... if you're still around! it seems that everyone has left for the summer... or lost internet access! *sigh*

hahahha the ravages that are persian parenting...awww your too cute! AND I REFUSE TO RETRACT MY AW! ahahahah dude, the one time i manage to convince the rents to give me access, YOU'RE NOT ONLINE! jeebus, what are the chances? also, i read your emails, ahahah and i didnt call you cuz i was asleep!!! you know me, i'll sleep to avoid doing things i should be eheheh
in regards to your music question...religious music usually pertains to religion or god :P ehehe to give you the EXTREMELY obvious answer ehehe :D
i'd like to ask you why it matters if the music you listen to is classified as religious or otherwise? cuz i think as long as it uplifts your spirit, or makes you think, it should be good.
i miss my internet :( byeeeeeeee
punk, samira! that's all i can say. folks, i find it amazing that regardless of her knowing EXACTLY what i mean, she gives some superficial stuff as an answer (and yes, she is my only reader that i will openly attempt to crush).
see, you hit on something about whole "upliftment" thing. i see it like you do, if it uplifts you, makes you think, makes you happy, eheh (building castles in the sand!), then its good... but i think that traditionally, religious music has been classified as "uplifting" or if not religious, then classical - tho in many cases classical and religious music are the same! so... everything else has been classified as base and decadent, etc. so when i drive past an older couple with my window down and music blasting - bass on full! - they look at me like i'm out of my mind (and no, it's not cuz i'm doing 120!)... but, i mean, that's not a correct judgment on their part...
plus, samira, being a persian, you would know exactly what i mean. my brother and i were into this baha'i hip hop artist a few years back.. hehe, many years back. we'd blast it in the car, and dad would go "what is this disgusting music?!" etc etc... and turn it off. but it was baha'i, and he just couldn't accept the fact that there are always good and bad types of music (case in point: black eyed peas - one thoughtful song, the rest of the album? filler for the money i wasted NOT getting a single)
i miss you not technically having internet!
wow we have had this conversation a million and one times haha
